Man posing as lawyer arrested

New Delhi: A man allegedly posing as a lawyer was arrested on Saturday at a district courts complex here after some advocates got hold of him when he was emerging from of a courtroom.

“Shailender Lotan, who appeared as a lawyer in a matrimonial case before District Judge Gurdeep Kumar, was arrested as he was found practising without valid documents,” New Delhi Bar Association Secretary R.K. Wadhwa said.

Lotan allegedly confessed before the bar leaders that he has been appearing in courts as a lawyer for the last one year, Mr. Wadhwa said.

The alleged fake lawyer has been booked under various provisions of the IPC, dealing with cheating, forgery and impersonation.

The lawyers became suspicious of Lotan’s identity after Jatin Malhotra, a clerk working with an advocate, checked his enrolment number with the records of the Bar Council of Delhi (BCD).

Lotan has been appearing for Malhotra’s estranged wife in a matrimonial dispute case.
