Karthick and Badrinath slam centuries

CHENNAI: K.B. Arun Karthick and S. Badrinath slammed centuries for Vijay against UFCC (T. Nagar) while Rahil Shah took six wickets to put Parry’s in a strong position against IOB in day-two action in the first round of the TNCA first division league here.

Vidyut hits 121

In the match between Jolly Rovers and Grand Slam, the battle for the lead was interestingly poised after Friday’s play. Grand Slam responded to Rovers’ 427 with 238 for two in 70 overs. M. Kaushik Gandhi (87 batting, 198b, 10x4) and K. Sriram (86 batting, 179b, 11x4, 1x6) added 176 for the unbroken third wicket. The left-handed S. Vidyut had earlier made 121 (195b, 14x4) for Rovers.

India Pistons declared its first innings on 421 for eight — M.R. Shrinivas made 152 (269b, 18x4) and C. Ganapathi scored 73 (128b, 5x4) — before reducing Young Stars to 185 for seven. S.R. Ganesh Kumar (46) was the only batsman to cross 40 for Young Stars. Medium-pacer M. Balamurugan claimed three wickets for Pistons.

Globe Trotters, replying to Indian Bank’s 270, was strongly placed on 171 for one. X. Thalaivan Sargunam (69, 161b, 8x4) and Sunny Gupta (71 batting, 194b, 8x4) raised an opening stand of 140 for Trotters. Sunny Gupta had earlier taken four wickets with his off-spin. Seamer P. Dharma chipped in with three wickets. For Indian Bank, D. Mohsin Basha scored 53 (113b, 9x4).

Southern Railway finished the day on 141 for four after Aruna declared its first innings on 401 for nine. T. Dushyanth was unbeaten on 72 (194b, 9x4) for Railway. Aruna’s P. Shijit Chandran took two wickets in the space of 12 balls.

Earlier, M.P. Rajesh (88, 149b, 9x4, 1x6) and S. Senthil Kumar (62, 62b, 10x4, 2x6) batted well for Aruna. Railway’s left-arm spinner P. Prashant returned figures of four for 66.

Arun Karthick (118, 136b, 13x4, 1x6) and Badrinath (127, 94b, 12x4, 4x6) went to three figures in their first appearances for Vijay. Their centuries were complemented by R. Prasanna’s 64 (115b, 9x4), S. Suresh Kumar’s 66 (104b, 7x4, 1x6), and M.K. Siva Kumar’s unbeaten 51 (66b, 3x4, 1x6). Vijay made 468 for seven before declaring its innings for a lead of 278. UFCC slid to 49 for four in its second essay, off-spinner R. Ashwin taking three wickets.

Rahil scalps six

Left-arm spinner Rahil Shah returned figures of six for 64 to help Parry’s reduce IOB to 160 for eight. Parry’s had earlier scored 316. Arjun Sarathy made 53 (183b, 6x4, 1x6) to add to half-centuries from Vikram Mani and N. Raghavendran (55, 104b, 8x4, 1x6).

Off-spinner J. Joel Joseph (five for 90) and left-arm spinner C. Suresh (four for 93) were among the wickets for IOB.
