Shahbaz sizzles

Chennai: Shahbaz’s four goals, including a hat-trick, helped Chepauk Youngsters beat The Hindu 7-3 in the opening match of the Syed Ahmed memorial hockey tournament at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium on Friday.

Ameen (2) and Hyder were the other scorers for Chepauk Youngsters. Andrew, Porchzian, and Balaji scored for The Hindu.

The tournament was inaugurated by Kishore Reddy, Chief Executive, K.K. Apparel, in the presence of Olympian Md. Riaz.

MCC posts win

MCC MHSS defeated Gill Adarsh ‘B’ by five wickets in the TNCA-Boost city schools under-16 cricket tournament at the St. Bede’s ground on Friday.

The scores:

Gill Adarsh ‘B’ (Ch 14) 131 for eight in 30 overs (R. Hemanth Kumar 34) lost to MCC MHSS (Ch 31) 134 for five in 28.5 overs (K. Srinath 35).

PS HSS (Ch 4) 149 for eight in 30 overs (N. Niranjani Sai 26) lost to PSBB ‘A’ (Ch 78) 152 for six in 23.4 overs (Karthik Ganesh 27, R. Akash 59).

National Public School (Ch 86) 117 in 27.3 overs (A. Senthil Kumaran 26, B. Anuragh three for 23, T.A. Adhiswar three for 33) lost to Bala Vidya Mandir (Ch 20) 118 for two in 16.1 overs (S. Aravind 35, Sanjeev Mohan 44 n.o.).

Sir M. Venkata Subba Rao MHSS 78 in 17.2 overs lost to Nellai Nadar MHSS (Ch 41) 83 for one ion 10.3 overs (P.K. Naveen Babu 50 n.o.).

Chess tournament

Modern SSS will organise the second International rating chess tournament from August 4 to 8 at the School premises, Nanganallur.

The total cash prize fund is Rs. 1 lakh and the winner will receive Rs. 25,000.

School and Junior College students from all over India are eligible to participate. The entry fee is varied depending on FIDE ratings. However, it is free for IMs, WIMs, FMs and WFMs and those rated above 2300.

Entries close on July 31.
