Loganathan to clash with Imran

Sports Reporter

CHENNAI: R. Loganathan of Q-Shot entered the final of the India Cements-SIAA open snooker tournament, beating Dilip Kumar of TNBSA by five frames to three here on Friday.

Loganathan will take on Imran Ganj in the final on Saturday. Imran shocked favourite Rafath Habib in the other semifinal, registering a 5-2 win over the former Asian Games champion.

In a game that was characterised by missed shots and slices of luck for both players, Loganathan emerged triumphant after over three hours of play, losing the first frame and raising his level of play thereafter as his 19-year-old opponent gave in. With both players locked at two frames apiece, Dilip, a student of Guru Nanak College (Velachery), started the fifth frame with a break of 34, but could add just a solitary point to his tally as Loganathan cleared the table with a clinical performance.

Two lucky shots for red and blue helped Loganathan get ahead and clinch the sixth frame. Dilip pulled one back by winning the seventh, but Loganathan sealed the match by winning a close eighth frame, a difficult last pot of the black helping him through 47-39.

The results: Semifinals (best-of-nine): R. Loganathan (Q-Shot) bt Dilip Kumar (TNBSA) 5-3 (38-65, 67-41, 54-67, 65-44, 85-35, 67-46, 25-61, 47-39); Imran Ganj (MCC) bt Rafath Habib (SRSA) 5-2 (69-47, 59-9, 69-37, 64-58, 15-65, 37-99, 69-41).
