Farmers isolated in a village in China
Staff Reporter
Bangalore: Contrary to the State Agriculture Department’s claims that farmers from Karnataka, who went on a study tour to China, were quarantined in a star hotel in Beijing, Principal Secretary (Medical education) V. Umesh on Thursday revealed that they were actually isolated in a village with only phone and internet facilities.
He was inaugurating an orientation programme on “Influenza A H1N1” virus in the city.
“If this is how people are treated, it will affect international travel and relations between the two countries. There are misconceptions about the disease. But there is no need to panic,” he said.
“We must put it across to people that the diagnosis and treatment of this disease is in their own interest. The State will involve private organisations to deal with the situation,” he added.
