Counterfeit currency racket busted

BANGALORE: The HAL police had arrested a garment shop owner, who was allegedly circulating counterfeit currencies on Wednesday night.
The police gave the name of the accused as Vishwanath Nair (50), a native of Kottayam in Kerala.
The police have seized 596 counterfeit currency notes of the denomination of Rs. 100 from the accused.
The accused, owner of Chami and Chami Garments on Marathahalli Main Road, is a resident of Karthik Nagar near Marathahalli.
For the past several months, he was allegedly involved in the counterfeit currency racket.
Raided
Based on the specific information, his shop and house were raided on Wednesday night, the HAL police said.
Vishwanath Nair had allegedly been giving counterfeit notes to his customers.
During investigation, the accused said he had collected counterfeit currencies from Kerala.
A team would be sent to Kerala to trace his accomplices, the police said.
