Tirupur: Following designation of Canara Bank as Lead Bank for Tirupur district by Reserve Bank of India last month, hectic preparations are under way to constitute the District Consultative Committee (DCC) for Banking Development for the district.

The DCC for Banking Development, with Lead Bank as its convener, will be chaired by the Collector.

“The Committee will ensure focused liaison between the government machinery and the financial institutions in the district besides sorting out common problems faced by banks in financing development projects as well as extension of credit to priority sector lending,” R. Murugesan, Lead Bank Manager, told The Hindu.

The DCC for Banking Development will have senior officials like Project Officers of District Rural Development Agency and Mahalir Thittam, Lead District Officer of Reserve Bank of India and a representative each of all banks in the district, as its members. At present, there are 39 banks in the district having a total of 177 branches.

Of the total banks having its presence in the district, 23 are nationalised and the remaining in the private sector.

Mr. Murugesan said that the first Annual Credit Plan (ACP) for Tirupur district would be brought out this month.

“The document will take stock of short-term trend in credit disbursements by financial institutions in farm and non- farm sector programmes as well as for promotional programmes for rural industries and service sector,” Mr. Murugesan said.
