Panchayats told to control dog menace

ARIYALUR: Steps have been initiated by the district administration to control the stray dog menace in the district and all the panchayats have been instructed to catch the stray dogs and sterilise them immediately.
Special meeting
A special district-level coordination meeting to control the menace was held here on Wednesday under the chairmanship of R. Venkatachalam, Project Officer, DRDA.
Officials from panchayat development, Animal Husbandry department and representatives from the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals attended the meeting.
“Register pets”
Those having pet dogs in their houses have been instructed to register it with the respective panchayats and get identity cards immediately and they should also inform complete details about their pets to the concerned village panchayat and register it in the records.
The Project Officer said that a committee headed by the Block Development Officer would be formed in each panchayat union to monitor the action taken for controlling the stray dogs menace.
