A press release said that officials of the software firm inside Madras Export Processing Zone – Special Economic Zone had conducted the tests on May 30 and on that day, Karthikeyan managed to get hold of a copy of the list of the candidates with their contact numbers. He contacted the aspirants and promised to get them jobs as he had connections with all higher-ups in the organisation. He also asked one month’s salary as commission for getting confirmed placements. The company’s officials told police that even after some youth were placed, Karthikeyan continued to contact them over phone and harassed them asking them to pay a month’s salary. Following the complaint, CCB personnel traced Karthikeyan at Puducherry and arrested him, the release said.
