Involvement of his wife suspected: Police

“The woman giving contradictory statements”

“The woman had marital dispute with her husband”

NEW DELHI: A 32-year-old businessman was stabbed to death allegedly by four young men at his residence in Rajouri Garden here on Thursday. The police suspect involvement of his wife.

Jagmohan Kohli, who owned a motor spares part shop, was found lying in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds and a scarf round his neck in the early hours of the morning after a call was made to the Police Control Room. The police took him to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.

The police have registered a murder case at the Rajouri Garden police station.

The wife of the deceased, Sumit, told the police that four men entered the house around 2 a.m. and demanded Rs.4 lakh from her husband. When he refused, one of them stabbed him several times and fled, she added.

The woman told the police that the four men tied up her hands and legs with a rope but she managed to free herself and inform her brother-in-law who in turn called up the police. The police said the woman was giving contradictory statements and they were probing all possible angles. “There are certain contradictions in the statement given by the woman. We are trying to corroborate her statement with the scene of crime. Her role in the whole case seems suspicious,” said a senior officer.

The officer said the post-mortem report was awaited. “The cause of death will throw more light on the case. We want to know whether he was first strangulated or stabbed,” the officer added.

Sumit was living separately from her husband for the past several months due to a marital dispute and had returned to live with him only recently.
