Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Karnataka Police’s Forest Cell sleuths on Thursday arrested Madhu (26) and Guruswamy (23) for allegedly possessing two elephant tusks weighing 8.5 kg. The two were caught near Bommanahalli tempo stand. The police said the two were carrying the tusks in an autorickshaw.

The K.R. Puram police arrested two workers from Kollegal for allegedly possessing six ivory pieces. The two were found selling the ivory pieces in a lodge room.

The police said K. Kumar (30) and his brother K. Raju had come down from Kollegal with ivory pieces which were about two-foot long. The ivory was reported procured from Joseph, a man wanted in many cases relating to the illegal trade.

Kumar and Raju stayed in a K.R. Puram lodge attempting to sell each ivory piece for Rs. 25 lakh when the police arrested them following a tip off.
