‘Sheila has promised funds for Games’

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Delhi Mayor Kanwar Sain on Thursday said that Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit had assured him of timely release of funds needed by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi for undertaking various projects related to the upcoming Commonwealth Games in the city.

Dr. Sain had called on Ms. Dikshit earlier in the day to discuss the annual budgetary allocation of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi for 2009-10.

“I apprised Ms. Dikshit of the need for immediate release of funds to the tune of Rs.500 crore so that the MCD is able to complete its various projects in time to make Delhi a world-class city, particularly in view of the Games,” he said.

“Most of the projects relate to engineering, environmental management services and horticulture. A number of them are currently under way and require immediate funding because of a 35 % in MCD’s budgetary allocation since last year,” he added.
