Security interception: Even a government department-owned jeep being subjected to vehicular check at Kattumavadi, about 75 km from Pudukottai, on Thursday.

PUDUKOTTAI: Personnel attached to the Coastal Security Group, Law and Order units of various police stations in the district, trainee police constables heaved a sigh of relief on Thursday, when the two-day intensive checking of vehicles in coastal villages concluded.

The entire drill was aimed at checking the alertness of the police personnel in ensuring effective checking of vehicles, to meet any emergency in future.

The Deputy Inspector of Police, Coastal Security Group, Pattukottai, S. Amsavalli, told The Hindu that the drill was entirely utilised for keeping the police on alert for gauging their preparedness for meeting any emergency.

Based on the performance of the personnel during these two days, an action plan would be evolved for evaluating the efficiency of the police. Also, steps for further toning up the efficiency of the personnel would also be worked out, if needed.

The drill also involved a strong co-ordination between the Coastal Security Group police personnel, the Revenue, Intelligence Wing, district police and other allied departments.

Vehicular check-up was conducted at about 25 places on the 38-km long coastal stretch besides all landing points.

About 2,000 vehicles, including trucks, vans and buses, were thoroughly checked during the drill.

“We did not spare even government departments-owned vehicles crossing the villages, without giving chance to any lapse in coastal security,” observed a police official.
