Railway track electrification work towards Kanyakumari on

Staff Reporter

Nagercoil: The Government has allotted Rs.40 crore for electrification of Kanyakumari-Thiruvananthapuram railway line.

Owing to non-allocation of fund, the work got delayed for the past many years. In the recent railway budget presented by Union Minister for Railways Mamata Banerjee, adequate fund has been allotted for implementation preliminary works.

With the works under way, heavy vehicles are not allowed to cross level-crossings on the Kanyakumari-Thiruvananthapuram stretch since a high voltage line is being laid. This has affected smooth flow of vehicular traffic at many places.

Level-crossings closed

Unmanned level-crossings at Nagercoil, Putheri and Puliyadi in Kanyakumari district had been closed already by blocking these gates with iron bars.
