NEW DELHI: The Centre on Thursday made it mandatory to include at least one woman member in the panel of selection boards and committees concerned with the recruitment process. The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has written to the Secretaries of all Ministries and departments of the Government of India, the Union Public Service Commission and the Service Selection Commission to “scrupulously” observe guidelines in this regard. “It should be mandatory to have one woman member in the selection boards and committees for making recruitment to 10 or more vacancies and women candidates are expected to be available for the service posts,” the communique from the DoPT said. “Where the number of vacancies against which selection to be made is less than 10, no efforts should be spared in finding a woman officer for inclusion in such committees and boards,” it said. The DoPT made it clear that if such an officer was not available in the concerned Ministry or department, a woman officer from any other office at the same station could be nominated to the board or committee.
