Kochi: The body of Josemon, 23, the sailor from Kerala who was killed in a vessel capsize off the Doha coast in Qatar last month, was buried at the St. Augustine’s Church cemetery in Kuzhuppilly, Vypeen, on Thursday evening. The casket carrying the remains of Josemon was brought to his home at Cheruvype from the Cochin International Airport around noon. Josemon had been into the sailing career for the past one-and-a-half years and joined Damas Victory, an anchor handling tug supply vessel owned by the Dubai-based Mid Gulf Offshore Ship Charters, as an oilman five months back. The mishap occurred on June 30 morning when the vessel with 35 people onboard had run into rough weather near the Doha Channel. It was one Jaison Varghese from Kerala, his co-sailor, who first identified Josemon among the dead. The body had been kept at a hospital in Qatar for the last six days. The body reached the Cochin airport by an Air India Express flight in the morning and was received by his brother, Jobi. Though it was earlier said that one of his co-sailors would be accompanying the casket, no one was there. It was Union Minister of Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi who initiated the formalities for the early release of the body. He had earlier visited the family. Josemon is survived by his father Oommachan of Vazhappilly House, mother Molly and younger brother Jobi. M.M. Monayi, MLA; Additional District Magistrate K.N. Raji and Bishop Thomas Chakkiath visited the family to offer condolences.
