Short humorous films highlighting child labour

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: The Bornfree Art School International has organised a show of short films — Che Che — to make people laugh, think and free working children.

Che Che, which is a cinematic expression in the style and genre of Charlie Chaplin, the master of mime, will be held at Bal Bhavan, Cubbon Park, on July 11. Three films — “Bonda Boy”, “Ragged Dancers” and “Mane Bootha” — will be screened as part of the show. The child actors in the films are those who have “toiled from their cradle” and are now liberated. They appeal to everyone with their acting and communication skills. The children have also contributed to the production of the films.

While “Bonda Boy” is about children working in hotels, “Mane Bootha” is about those who work as domestic helpers, and “Ragged Dancers” is about child rag-pickers.

The story, screenplay and music are by John Devaraj, who also dons the hat of director. About Che Che, the character, he said: “Che Che believes in social justice and highlights the conditions of working children in the country through humour. He speaks without words — a nonviolent, silent communication in a violent world.”

For more details, call Mr. Devaraj on Ph: 9886306366.
