3 held for faking papers to buy SIM card
Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD: Investigation to track the person behind a hoax bomb call led to the arrest of a public telephone booth-owner accused of presenting fabricated documents to secure a SIM card, besides, the SIM card dealer and sales executive who sold the SIM to him.
The Madhapur police on Wednesday arrested Inderchand Varma (50), owner of the booth from where the call was made, Srinivas Rao (45), the SIM card dealer and Santosh Kumar (25), the sales executive.
While Mr. Varma was booked for submitting false documents to secure the SIM card and not maintaining records of the calls made from the booth, the dealer and the executive were held for not verifying the documents.
A channel scribe received a call on his mobile on June 18 from an anonymous person who stated that suspicious persons were moving near Hi-Tec City.
Alerted by the journalist, the Cyberabad police rushed sniffer dogs and bomb disposal squads to Hi-Tec City and searched every nook and cranny only to realise that it was a false alarm.
The call was traced to Varma’s telephone booth, Madhapur Inspector N. Bhujanga Rao said.
But the booth owner could not give any details of the caller. Subsequently, the police found that even the documents presented by him to purchase the SIM card were fabricated.
