Bangalore: Even as the incident involving Housing Minister V. Somanna is playing itself out, yet another Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) official was assaulted allegedly by a politician and his relatives here on Wednesday.

Additional Commissioner of BBMP S.N. Nagaraj was reportedly manhandled by a former councillor and his family at Dasarahalli in his office near Peenya on Wednesday.

The officer was treated in the K.C. General Hospital and the Peenya police arrested B.L. Narasimhachar (55), former councillor of Dasarahalli City Municipal Council, his son B.N. Keshavachar (30), a relative G. Lakshmikantha Acharya Raj (32) and his friend K. Prabhakar (31). All reside at MEI Layout near Dasarahalli.

Transferred

“Mr. Nagaraj was transferred to BBMP from KIADB just three days ago. On Wednesday, he was inspecting encroachments on the pavements at Dasarahalli and was instructing his subordinates to evict the encroachers when the accused persons picked a quarrel with him and assaulted him,” S.S. Khandre, Public Relations Officer of the BBMP, told The Hindu.

Later, Mr. Nagaraj returned to his office off Dasarahalli Main Road when the four accused men barged into his office and allegedly manhandled him again. “I was doing my duty. Several pavements have been encroached by vendors and I was taking initiatives to clear them.

“The accused misbehaved with me and assaulted me,” Mr. Nagaraj told The Hindu.

The Peenya police arrested the four men who were sent to judicial custody.

The assault comes close on the heels of reports that Mr. Somanna slapped BBMP Assistant Executive Engineer Somaraju on July 4. Mr. Somaraju is still in hospital.
