BANGALORE: Minister for Housing and Muzrai V. Somanna said Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee working president D.K. Shivakumar hatched a political conspiracy against him to tarnish his image by politicising an alleged assault on Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike junior engineer A.N. Somaraju. Mr. Somanna told presspersons here on Wednesday that the Congress leaders and a few former Congress corporators in the Govindarajangar Assembly Constituency have been levelling false charges against him to “finish” his political career. He had not slapped Mr. Somaraju and he had not insulted any officials during his 28 years of the political career, Mr. Somanna said. Keeping an eye on the Assembly byelections as well as the BBMP elections, the Congress leaders had been spreading baseless rumours against him. Mr. Shivakumar and other Congress leaders visited a private hospital and consoled the family of Mr. Somaraju and forced Mr. Somaraju’s wife to file a police complaint against him. However, the police had not registered the complaint, he said. On July 4, Mr. Somanna took Mr. Somaraju to task while inspecting ongoing development works at Agrahara Dasarahalli in the city. Mr. Somanna allegedly assaulted Mr. Somaraju, who reportedly fell unconscious. Later, the BBMP engineer was admitted to the hospital. Referring to the Housing Department works, he said all slum dwellers would be provided decent housing in the next four years. An official team, which visited Andhra Pradesh to study the implementation of Housing Scheme there, had submitted a report. The department would submit an action plan on housing to the Chief Minister soon, he said.
