OCCUPATIONAL HAZARD: The spot where a man died while demolishing a building near Lalbagh West Gate for metro work in Bangalore on Wednesday. BANGALORE: The biggest infrastructure project of the city – Namma Metro – claimed yet another life on Wednesday when a wall of a building being demolished collapsed on a worker killing him on the spot. The police identified the worker as Sangappa (24), native of Yelaburga taluk in Koppal district. The death occurred at Property No. 87 that belonged to Ramachandra and situated in front of Lalbagh West Gate on R.V. Road around 1.45 p.m. The police said the worker was not wearing protective headgear when the accident occurred. Sangappa, his brothers Basavaraj and Prakash and mother Lakshmamma worked for the metro project and stayed near Hebbal Kempapura in the shed provided by the contractor, Binyas Constructions. Sangappa had been with the project for two years, the police said. Terming the death unfortunate, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) officials said accidents occurred despite taking every possible precautionary measure. In this case, the wall was engineered to collapse on the other side but instead, it fell on the side where Sangappa was working. No other worker was injured in the incident, the officials added. A few months ago, a worker died when the building under demolition suddenly collapsed near Malleswaram on Reach 3.
