30 confirmed swine flu cases so far

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: Even as the city is seeing a spurt in chikungunya and dengue cases, 30 confirmed cases of H1N1 virus have been reported so far. This includes a fresh positive case reported on Wednesday.

The latest confirmed case is of a 29-year-old person, who returned from Bangkok on July 4. He had voluntarily reported for screening at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases (RGICD) on July 7. He was a co-passenger of the two persons who tested positive on Tuesday.

State health officials said 391 samples were sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune so far. Of these, 30 have tested positive and 25 of the patients have already been discharged from the hospitals – RGICD, Victoria and Lakeside – where they were admitted. The discharged persons have been advised to stay at home for a week, the officials said.

Nine persons were screened at RGICD on Wednesday.
