AIR, DD employees stage protest

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Demanding promotions for Group ‘D’ employees and increase in salaries, members of the Association of Radio and Television Engineering Employees (ARTEE) staged a lunch-hour protest demonstration on Wednesday.

The members, led by their state Secretary B.J. Sathyanarayana, gathered in front of the AIR gate during lunch hour and discussed their pending demands.

“We are agitated against the Union Government for not considering the employees’ pending demands,” Mr. Sathyanarayana said.

He said Group ‘D’ employees had not been promoted for over 20 years.

“They should be promoted to Group ‘C’ cadre,” he said.

The members wanted posts abolished from the operating cadres of All India Radio and Doordarshan to be restored immediately.

The association, in support of its demands, was planning a day-long protest on July 22 at Doordarshan Kendra, Bangalore, he said.

Members from All India Radio, Bangalore, Superpower Transmitters, All India Radio, Yelahanka New Town and Bangalore Doordarshan participated in Wednesday’s protest.
