The three-storeyed edifice spread over half-an-acre offers CBSE syllabus Built at a cost of Rs. 6.01 crore, school houses 30 classrooms, labs, etc.
Impressive: The new building of the Model School at Fatimanagar in old city Hyderabad: It is the best thing that could have happened to old city. A class apart as far as schools are concerned. Given the poor infrastructure and congested surroundings in which most schools function, this one has everything one can ask for. Spacious classrooms, fans, modern toilets and a huge playground. What’s more it offers CBSE syllabus on the Kendriya Vidyalaya pattern in Urdu medium. The Model School set up by the Maulana Azad National Urdu University at Fatimanagar near the Falaknuma palace is turning out to be a big hit. Particularly, its new three-storeyed building has cast a spell over aspirants. Nobody had an idea that this big a structure spread over half-an-acre was actually to be a school, till children moved in here on Tuesday. Earlier locationThough the Model School was functioning for the last two years in a rented premises at Bibi ka Chashma, it is only now that it is drawing special attention. Such a fine building for a school and that too with good infrastructure was unheard of in this part of the city. “Definitely, I would like my children to study in a school with good ambience”, says Syed Ali, a resident of Falaknuma echoing the views of many others. The modern edifice built at a cost of Rs. 6.01 crore has 30 big classrooms besides an assembly hall, seminar room, and computer labs. The Urdu University has started such a school at Darbhanga in Bihar and another is planned at Nugh in Haryana. “The basic idea of starting model schools is to promote Urdu language at the basic level. Besides they serve as training ground for our B.Ed students”, says K.R. Iqbal Ahmed, Vice-Chancellor (in-charge), Urdu university. Why the choice of old city for its location? “We want to promote literacy here”, says principal, Kafil Ahmed. Of course Hyderabad MP, Asaduddin Owaisi, also did his bit in getting the school located here. Good responseThe response is good with 250 admissions already in place this year taking the total strength to 450. Many parents are turning to the Model School because of the fee hike in private schools. The fact that education, books and uniform is totally free here is also a big draw.
