Seven officials caught with assets worth Rs. 11 crore

Lokayukta raids in Bangalore, Mangalore, Dharwad, Gulbarga


BANGALORE: The Lokayukta police on Wednesday raided the houses and offices of seven officers who were found possessing assets disproportionate to their known sources of income. The raids are still on and so far they have found assets worth Rs. 11 crore.

Among the accused are Ikram Pasha, Inspector of Motor Vehicles, Bidar, who had been caught earlier for possessing excess cash of Rs. 7,000 at the Humnabad check-post in June. “We found assets worth Rs. 80 lakh from his house and three bank accounts. The search is still on,” said Lokayukta N. Santosh Hegde on Wednesday.

Ramachandrappa, Sub-Inspector of Excise, Bangalore, was found with assets worth Rs. 1.3 crore. Among the assets found include a house in Kalingahalli, which is used for film shooting, a wine store, a fuel station in Chamarajapet and 20 new suits and 300 pairs of shirts and trousers. The others are Inspector of Motor Vehicles, Raichur, Eranna, with assets worth Rs. 3.56 crore; Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Hubli-Dharwad, Fakirappa B. Chowhan (Rs. 1.83 crore); Police Inspector (Railways), Bangalore, A.D. Nagaraj (Rs. 74.8 lakh); Assistant Engineer, Karnataka Land Army, Gulbarga, Syed Mobin (Rs. 1.2 crore); and Vigilance officer, Mysore Minerals, Bangalore, Ramachandra Murthy (Rs. 1.56 crore).

The raids were simultaneously conducted in Bangalore, Mangalore, Dharwad and Gulbarga since morning. Mr. Eranna’sassets include a flat in Sahara India Township in Hyderabad, a hotel in Gurmitkal, two printing units in Dasarahalli, a house in Dollar’s Colony in Bangalore and 1.15 acres of land in Gurmitkal, near Gulbarga.

Mr. Chowhan’s assets include two fuel stations in Dharwad, 27 acres of land, a house in Dharwad and 22 bank accounts. Mr. Nagaraj has four sites in Mangalore and other assets.
