Kin tried to sell me to Sheikh, says woman

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: Twenty-three-year-old Safia Nayeem on Tuesday approached the Saidabad police, alleging that some of her relatives had wrongfully confined her, pressuring her to marry a 50-year-old Sheikh from Dubai.

Based on her complaint, the Saidabad police registered a case of wrongful confinement, assault and criminal intimidation. According to the woman, her relatives forcibly took her from Nampally to their house in Saidabad on July 4, confined her in a room and beat her up.

“They were forcing me to marry a Dubai Sheikh stating that it would fetch me money,” she complained to the police. The Malakpet ACP, Suhas Chaturvedi, said her allegations were being looked into. The woman maintained that she was from Nalgonda town and her parents died when she was a child. She is currently working as a domestic help at Kundanbagh.
