Two youths drown in Gandipet lake

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: Two youngsters got drowned in Gandipet lake while trying to rescue their friend as he slipped into deep waters having entered it for fun on Tuesday. None of the three knew swimming.

Ganesh, 22, of Asifnagar and Sai, 21, of Sitarambagh, along with four other friends, came to Chilkur Balaji temple in the morning.

After offering prayers at the temple, they went to the lake close by. While others sat on the bank, Ganesh, Sai and Arjun stepped inside the waters.

They were playfully moving around when Arjun skidded and fell in deep waters, the Moinabad Inspector, V. Bhaskar, said.

As he shouted for help, Ganesh and Sai tried to pull him out, but the duo drowned even as the other three friends on the bank watched helplessly as they too did not know swimming. Police retrieved the bodies with the help of locals later.
