The facility, inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor, is available round the clock VISAKHAPATNAM: To counter the menace of ragging and for the convenience of the junior students, the Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University B. Satyanarayana inaugurated a toll-free number at the campus here on Tuesday. The phone with the number 1800-425-0891 will be kept open and manned by a person round the clock and information will be passed on to the respective principals, chief wardens, registrar, dean of student affairs and security department. Inaugurating the number, the Vice-Chancellor said that the facility would give strength to the freshers and would act as deterrent for the seniors. Dr. Satyanarayana also spoke of implementing the concept of mentorship and has asked all heads of the departments to act as honorary wardens to tackle the problem of ragging in hostels. He also said that identity cards would be issued shortly to both junior and senior students for easy identification and task force comprising Dean of Student Affairs and Director Security has been instituted to closely monitor ragging prone zones. He also informed that important phone numbers of police officers will be provided and officers in mufti will be on rounds in the campus. To educate the students on the impact and consequences of ragging, Dean Student Affairs O.S.R.U. Bhanu Kumar will be organising a series of awareness camps in the coming week. The dean informed that Commissioner of Police N. Sambasiva Rao and Senior Civil Judge D. Dharma Rao will be addressing the junior and senior students and the staff members in these camps. The Registrar of the university, principals of various colleges, heads of the departments and wardens attended the inauguration meet.
