Swine flu cases rise to 20

HYDERABAD: One more case, 20th in the State, tested positive for influenza A(H1N1) flu virus, while two more persons with suspected symptoms were admitted to the A.P. Government General and Chest Hospital here on Tuesday.

The positive confirmation received on Tuesday from the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD), New Delhi, pertains to a nine-year-old boy who had travelled from Chicago to the city on Air India flight on July 3.

He showed no symptoms during screening at the airport, but developed the same the next day.

“He was admitted here on July 5 and his reports received on Tuesday shows positive confirmation.

He is 20th positive case reported in the State,” informed K. Subhakar, State Coordinator for A(H1N1) flu virus. The boy’s family members with whom he had spent time before being brought to the quarantine were also provided preventive treatment.

Those admitted with suspected symptoms include a 37-year-old traveller from Abu Dhabi and a 28-year-old woman who had returned from Singapore after a sight seeing tour. The latter returned to the city on Silk Airways flight on July 4, and on developing suspected symptoms, came to the General and Chest Hospital today.

Techie’s samples

A 26-year-old software professional who had come to the city from New York was admitted on Monday and report from NICD on her samples is awaited.

“As of now, 19 of the 20 positive cases have been discharged after treatment,” Dr. Subhakar added.
