Letters to the Editor
This is with reference to the news item “AI gave Rs. 22 crore for Praful for campaigning” (The Hindu, July 7). The news item, and more so the caption, is totally incorrect, misleading. The Ministry of Civil Aviation was not a party to the ad campaign, mentioned in the news item, inasmuch as the government gave no funds for it. All stakeholders of the civil aviation sector of the country, including all airlines and airport operators, got together to provide information about the sector and to project the growth in the sector. Air India as one of the stakeholders, I am told, had contributed about Rs. 1.8 crore, which again was their own decision and does not reflect any view or directive of the Ministry of Civil Aviation. Maushumi Chakravarty, Director (M&C, Ministry of Civil Aviation), Press Information Bureau New Delhi The error in the heading is regretted. — Editor-in-Chief, The Hindu
