Talasani commissions survey on Telangana

Special Correspondent

T. Srinivas Yadav

HYDERABAD: Former Telugu Desam Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav may keep his options open and take a decision on his political future based on a report of the survey he had commissioned in the twin cities.

Mr. Yadav said he had asked an agency to conduct a survey in 150 divisions of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation on separate Telangana, integrated State, local and non- local issues.

He has sought the survey results in ten days and he could take a final decision then.

A day after it was reported in the media that he met Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, apparently to join Congress, Mr. Yadav remained non-committal. He did not confirm whether he met Dr. Reddy or not.

“Why I should I confirm or deny? Even if I had met him why should I reveal? I am a former Minister and I have a right to meet anybody I want. After all, Dr. Reddy is the Chief Minister of the State. And why should media perceive that I would meet him only to join Congress”, he told reporters.

On his two meetings with TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu, he claimed the media again got it wrong. As on today, he was with Telugu Desam and he could meet and discuss issues affecting the party anytime with the party president.

During the two meetings, he emphasised that the party needed to reverse its stand on separate Telangana in view of the clear electoral verdict and the changed post-poll situation.

But he admitted that he was not satisfied with the response from Mr. Naidu as he merely kept giving the assurance that it would be discussed in the party fora. He said Mr. Naidu was not showing the urgency required with Corporation elections just two or three months away.

Sources said the party may not take any action immediately, as Mr. Yadav refrained from criticising the party and the leadership.
