Government Chief Whip Bhatti Vikramarka says TD should advise its MLA to cooperate in probe Congress workers urged to hold ‘silent protest’ if Naidu fails to tender unconditional apology HYDERABAD: The Congress has demanded that TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu tender an unconditional apology to women for making ‘highly objectionable’ remarks against the five nursing students from Kerala, who had accused the Kovvur MLA T. V. Rama Rao of sexually harassing them. Government Chief Whip Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and AP Mahila Congress president K.Ganga Bhavani at a press conference here on Tuesday said women in the State as well as Kerala felt ashamed at the manner in which the TDP chief chose to depict the hapless girls. Sweeping remarks“How can a responsible leader and former Chief Minister make sweeping remarks against the nursing students, who came out openly to expose the MLA,” Mr. Vikramarka questioned. He said the TDP should advise its MLA to cooperate with the investigating agencies to bring out the truth. ‘Derailing probe’“If he is not guilty of any wrongdoing, why were the MLA and his party men trying every means to derail the CID probe,” Mr. Vikramarka wondered. Ms. Ganga Bhavani lashed out at the TDP president for depicting the five girls in bad light. “Which girl will come forward to make allegations that some person had tried to sexually harass her,” she queried. Mr. Naidu had indulged in ‘character assassination’ of the girls by claiming that they must have been lured to come here with the promise of money. “Will any girl with self-respect agree to level such charges knowing very well the consequences,” she observed. The Mahila Congress chief gave a call to the party workers to hold a ‘silent protest’ on Thursday if Mr Naidu failed to tender unconditional apology.
