State to take advantage of enhanced allocations

K. Rosaiah

HYDERABAD: Finance Minister K. Rosaiah has described the Union budget as a “realistic” reflection of the ongoing financial crisis and said the State would take maximum advantage from enhancement of allocations to various schemes.

Mr. Rosaiah refuted the claims that the State was given a raw deal in the Union budget and that the budget was rather “dull”. The Centre would not give outright grants to any State as it had to follow certain guidelines and it was for the States secure Central assistance through specific schemes.

National project status

He dismissed the charge that the projects lined up by the State for national project status did not find a mention in the budget on the ground that Centre could take action into the issue if the projects were posed in a proper way after securing all clearances. One striking feature in the budget was less devolution to States and it was because of the shortfall in revenues to the Centre.

The State’s share from Central devolutions would drop by Rs. 500 crore, but the Centre at the same time had enhanced allocations to schemes like accelerated irrigation benefit programme and NREGS, interest subsidy and others that would make up for the shortfall.
