Jayalalithaa blames some party activists for poll defeat

Staff Reporter

Jayalalithaa

Pollachi: Lack of loyalty among some AIADMK activists, who mortgaged the interests of the party with the enemies for the sake of money, was the reason for its defeat in the Lok Sabha elections, AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa said here on Monday.

She was speaking at the marriage function of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Pollachi MLA V. Jayaraman’s daughter.

Ms. Jayalalithaa claimed that it was not that the people were not willing to vote for the AIADMK.

The DMK spent about Rs.1,600 crore and used money and muscle power in the elections, besides misusing the official machinery. Despite this, the overall winning margin of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam combine against the AIADMK-led front was only 15 lakh votes.

“The AIADMK could have easily managed to poll those 15 lakhs votes, if the party activists and leaders had remained loyal.”

In constituencies where party functionaries remained at the polling station till the completion of the process, the AIADMK won.

In some places, party activists took money from the “enemies” and left the polling station by 1.30 p.m.

The AIADMK was defeated in such places, she charged.

Lauding Mr. Jayaraman for having remained loyal to the party and leadership especially in crisis moments, she exhorted the party cadre to remain loyal to the party and work for its victory.
