Cut in interest rate for farmers hailed
Special Correspondent
CHANDIGARH: The Member of Parliament from Rohtak, Deepender Singh Hooda, on Monday thanked Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee for accepting his demands for adopting a comprehensive approach in solving the problems faced by the farmers and poor people and one-rank-one-pension for members of the defence forces in his Union Budget for 2009-10.
In a statement, Mr. Hooda said that while speaking in the Lok Sabha during the debate on the Motion of Thanks to the President for her address to Parliament, he had demanded that the Government reduce the interest rate on credit to farmers from the present seven per cent to four per cent and reward those who had paid back their loans on time with interest relief.
“I am happy and thankful to the Finance Minister for accepting my request and hope that in the foreseeable future, he will bring the interest rate down to four per cent,” he added.
He also thanked Mr. Mukherjee for accepting his two demands pertaining to direct fertiliser subsidy to farmers and one rank one pension. He said this would benefit thousands of people of Haryana which enjoys the distinction of sending a large number of people to the defence forces.
