Budget unfavourable to small industries: KSIA

Staff Correspondent

MANGALORE: The Kanara Small Industries Association (KSIA), Dakshina Kannada, has said that the Union Budget 2009-10 was unfavourable for the growth of small industries.

K. Jayaraj Pai, the president of KSIA, told The Hindu that small industries were struggling for survival in the wake of economic slow down and were expecting the Union Government to come out with a package to help them in recovering. President of District Small Industries Association Sumith S. Rao termed the Budget a decent attempt. G.G. Mohandas Prabhu, vice-president, Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry, welcomed the hike in allocation for Bharat Nirman project and National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.

BJP’s reaction

The district unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party said the Budget was anti-development. In a press release here, its president K. Monappa Bhandary said that the Budget had not announced any steps to help the poor and middle class people in improving their standard of living. It had not given thrust for internal growth of the economy.
