Phone numbers of police officers

Superintendent of Police, Coimbatore Rural District,

N. Kannan has announced that crime stopper mobiles have been provided to supervisory officers at every sub-division and the public could call up these numbers seeking help.

Mr. Kannan said that the public could call up these crime stopper mobile numbers in the event of they having complaints/information about those indulging in sand smuggling, rice smuggling, land usurping, criminal gangs, rowdies, kidnappers/abductors, katta panchayat (illegal arbitration), toddy tapping, arrack sale, ganja, drug vending, those indulging in sale of lottery tickets and sale of obscene and pirated VCDs.

The identity of the caller/information would be kept confidential.

The mobile numbers are : 96883-11890 (Periyanaickenpalayam sub-division areas), 96883-11891 (Pollachi), 96883-11892 (Perur), 96883-11893 (Valparai) and 96883-11894 (Sulur).

Birds rescued

Birds coming under Schedule IV of the Wildlife Protection Act found in possession of a seller at Ram Nagar in the city were rescued on Monday afternoon.

According to K. Kalidasan, president of OSAI, a Non-Governmental Organisation, an OSAI activist A. Sivakumar saw a person selling 40 such birds

The seller was handed over to the Forest Department along with the birds. The birds were later freed in the presence of OSAI at Thondamuthur.

The birds rescued included Red Avadavat (Amandava amandava), Black-headed munia (Lonchura Malacca), Scaly-breasted munia (Lonchura punctulata), Rose-ringed parakeet (Pisttacula krameri).

These birds were sold in the name of love birds after painting them.

VCDs seized

In raids conducted at various places in Coimbatore Rural District, police have arrested five persons and have seized close to 120 pirated and pornographic VCDs.

Raids were conducted at Vadavalli, Valparai, Somanur, Vettaikaranpudur and Anaimalai on Sunday.
