The drinking water supply to Pasumainagar near Airport is far from satisfactory. Though supply of water on alternate days was assured by the corporation authorities, residents of Pasumainagar get no water supply for 10 to 15 days at a stretch. Even if water supply is made, it hardly lasts for 10 minutes. Pasumainagar solely depends on corporation water as the ground water is polluted by tannery effluents I request the corporation authorities to look into the matter. R. Paramasivam, Pasumainagar. Control pricesFor the past two years or so, the prices of essential items is spiralling. For example, the price of a soap weighing 90 grams is Rs. 16.50, while a few years ago, it was only Rs. 9. The price of toothpaste of normal size (200 grams) is not less than Rs. 50. It is needless to say how far the prices of other grains and edible oils has risen. I earnestly appeal to both the Central and State governments to seriously consider the matter and take steps to control the price line. S. Ranganathan, Seshapuram. Casual power cutsAs per the load shedding schedule, power cut time to Visvasa Nagar, Karumandapam is from 12 noon to 2 p.m. It is prompt and regular. Apart from this, casual power cut in day and night is recurring. Moreover, many street lights are also not working in the area. This has led to increase in crimes like chain snatching, etc. R. Pichai Pillai, Karumandapam. Road trapOn July 4, when I was riding my motorcycle from Chatram Bus Stand to Mambazha Salai Signal. In the middle of Cauvery Bridge, I met with a freak accident. Cable wires tied to the electric posts were lying on the road side. My vehicle got trapped in the wire and I fell in front of the vehicle and suffered injuries. The hanging wires were noticed in three spots on the bridge. Immediately I rang up to Phone No. 100 and then to 15333 and reported the fact for immediate rectification. I appeal to the EB / Cable operators to ensure safe vehicular traffic on the bridge. V. Sankaran, Srirangam. Spelling mistakeThe challan available at SBI/Heavy Electricals Branch, Kailasapuram, BHEL Township, has the following mistakes: 1. Cash Manager - printed as ‘case’ Manager (in main slip & in counterfoil) and 2. Change of address if any - printed as ‘Cange’ of address if any. R. Srinivasan, Ganesapuram. Slip coaches neededSince there is no direct connectivity of trains with suitable timings to southern district from Nagore. I request railway authority to take necessary steps to introduce at least 2 sleeper class slip coaches and one unreserved second class coach from Nagore at late hours to be attached at Tiruchi Junction with 2661/2662 Pothigai Express and 6123/6124 Anantapuri Express. This will help people from southern districts to visit holy places like Nagore, Vellankanni and Navagragha temples. Similarly, these coaches can be made to reach Nagore in early morning. M. Sundara Kumar, Ramalinga Nagar. Attach more coachesFrom Karur we have a passenger train which reaches Kulithalai around 8 a.m. and Tiruchi Junction by 9 a.m. This time is convenient to all . The available compartments are eight which has not been enough. I request the railway authorities to attach additional compartments. R. Mohan Kumar, Musiri. Train extensionFor more than one decade, so many requests were made in view of public interest for the extension of Kollam-Madurai Passenger (Train no: 728) upto Tiruchi and Madurai-Kollam passenger (Train no: 727) from Tiruchi Junction. But till date the Southern Railway has ignored it. We once again request the railway authorities to do the needful. K. P. Leon, Anna Nagar Tidy coaches, pleaseThe Railways will do well to maintain properly the II class compartments in the trains. Some toilets stink. Some glass windows and shutters are not in working condition. It should not be lost on the Railways that majority of the travelling public are lower class passengers who help swell its kitty. So don’t they deserve better treatment? Vengarai S. Raman, Thanjavur Re-lay roadThe Valavanthakottai Road is full of potholes. I request the authorities to re-lay this road immediately. N. Alagappan, Tiruverambur. Erroneous argumentPay band has uniform maximum with many post-wise minimum. Accordingly, Central Resolution declares that revised pension, in no case, shall be lower than 50 per cent of the sum of the “minimum of the pay” in the pay band and grade pay thereon “corresponding to the pre revised pay scale from which the pensioner had retired”. Amount is [a] Minimum of the Pay in the pay band [b] grade pay thereon. Condition is [i] 50 per cent [ii] retiree-post. If 50 per cent condition is applicable to both amounts, retiree-post condition applies to both. Pension Dept argues it as 50 per cent of the minimum of the pay in the pay band irrespective of pre-revised scale plus grade-pay corresponding to pre-revised scale. If post factor is literally disconnected from band pay, 50 per cent factor also gets literally detached from grade-pay justifying payment of full grade-pay 100 per cent, the denial of which makes Pension Department argument erroneous and invalid. K. Srinivasan, T. V. Koil. Heavy trafficSome time back, the heavy vehicle barrier near the State Bank of India main branch on McDonalds Road had been removed, resulting in uncontrolled flow of heavy vehicles causing fear among the aged people and others who come to the bank during day time. Two wheeler riders face the problem of sudden turn of 1 route buses, skipping the junction, without any turning indication and the SETC buses ply from the other end to reach their depot on the other end of the road. The heavy vehicle barrier should be re-installed . C. Ramalingam, Woraiyur. The old and ATMsPensioners, especially women above 70, are finding it difficult to draw cash through ATM machines since they have to operate various options especially when they are not educated, and have to disclose their PIN to their daughter or son. I wish the banks should come out with an easier way. D. Saminathan, Karumandapam.
