K. Balchand

NEW DELHI: The UPA government on Monday limited itself to just proposing to draft the National Food Security Bill, under which it plans to make available 25 kg of foodgrain at Rs.3 a kg to each Below the Poverty Line (BPL) family.

Finance Minster Pranab Mukherjee, in his budget proposal for 2009-10, said the Agriculture Department would draft the bill and put it on the website of the Department of Food and Public Distribution to elicit public opinion soon.

Mr. Mukherjee made no promises about when it would be implemented.
