CHENNAI: Lavanya Saravanan and P. Vignesh Prabhu clinched the girls’ and boys’ under-14 titles in the second Augustine Thomas Cup State-ranking tennis tournament, organised by SDAT-Prince Academy, at its courts here on Sunday. Lavanya fought back valiantly from 1-4 and 3-5 down in the first set to script a 7-5, 7-5 win over R. Binu. Earlier, R. Vignesh clinched the boys’ under-14 title defeating L. Aakash 6-3, 6-2 in 45 minutes. R. Preeth Kumar won his third consecutive under-10 title this year, winning the other two tournaments at Nungambakkam Tennis Club. Cash prizesThe boys’ and girls’ under-14 champion and runner-up got Rs. 5000 and Rs. 3000 respectively. All the category winners and runners-up received cash prizes. Ojas Theju was chosen most promising player of the tournament while the most promising player of the SDAT-Prince Academy was T. Adarsh. The results (finals): Girls: U-12: Saranya Saravanan bt Kavya Balasubramaniam 6-3, 7-6(9). U-14: Lavanya Saravanan bt R. Binu 7-5, 7-5. Boys: U-14: P. Vignesh Prabhu bt L. Aakash 6-3, 6-2.
