HUBLI: Central Railway (Mumbai) clinched its maiden all-India inter-Railway men’s table tennis team title at the Chalukya Institute hall here on Sunday. Central Railway quelled the challenge of Southern Railway 3-2. M. Subash gave Southern Railway a lifeline after the fancied G. Vinod lost both his matches. But in the final analysis it was the crowd favourite Omkar Tolgalkar, who rose to the occasion, winning the decider against Subash to clinch the title. Western Railway edged past South Eastern Railway 3-2 in the third place play-off. Earlier, South Eastern Railway women ended Eastern Railway’s domination to clinch the title, with an all-win record in the five team round-robin league. Led by veteran Anandita Chakraborthy, South Eastern won 3-1 over Eastern to top the league. Eastern finished second, while Central, Western and Metro Railway (New Delhi) finished in that order. The results: Men’s team Championship match: Central Railway (Mumbai) bt Southern Railway 3- 2 (Omkar Tolgalkar bt G. Vinod 11-8, 7-11, 9-11, 12-10, 11-9; Aman Balgu lost to M. Subash 9-11, 7-11, 11-8, 9-11; M. Biniwale lost to L. Sachin 6-11, 12-14, 9-11; Aman Balgu bt G. Vinod 11-13, 11-4, 11-5, 11-2; Omkar Tolgalkar bt M. Subash 13-11, 11-2, 13-11). Third place play-off: Western Railway bt South Eastern Railway 3-2 (Harmeet Desai lost to S. Sarkar 8-11, 15-13, 11-8, 17-19, 5-11; B. Arpit bt C. Choudhary 9-11, 7-11, 11-7, 11-5, 11-6; Milar Basak bt S. Kundu 11-6, 11-7, 11-7; B. Arpit lost to S. Sarkar 11-6, 5-11, 7-11, 7-11; Harmeet Desai bt C. Choudhary 11-9, 11-6, 11-3).
