BANGALORE: An elderly couple were found dead at their residence in Sampangiramanagar here on Sunday night. Venkataswamy (78), an ex-serviceman, and his wife, Lakshmamma, were found wrapped up in bedsheets, tied at both ends with ropes, in their bedroom. The couple were living with their son Jyothikumar. A search is on for Jyothikumar. The double murder, which were first said to be a suicide, have sent shock-waves through the locality with residents crowding outside the Jyothikumar’s house. The bodies were discovered by Jyothikumar’s wife who returned from work at at 9.30 p.m., the police said. The assailant had hit the couple on their head with a heavy object as preliminary investigation revealed several blunt injuries on the bodies. Their throats appeared to have been slit after the couple were strangled. Also, the front door of the house was locked and the two bodies were placed on the floor. Neighbours of Jyothikumar claimed that he [Jyothikumar] had visited the house only a few hours ago. He had left in a car. The police said that there was no theft as all valuables in the room were intact. They suspected that the plan was to dispose of the bodies in the night.
