NEW DELHI: Six young men, including two final year BCA students, have been arrested in South Delhi for their alleged involvement in auto-lifting. The police claim to have seized 10 stolen motorcycles, two cars and forged documents from them. The accused have been identified as Shashank (19), Ajeet Kumar (21), Manoj (22), Manoj Kumar (22), Sanjay Kumar (22) and Dipankar (24). They were arrested by a team led by Inspector Rajender Singh of the Lodhi Colony police station. Three of the accused were arrested at Jungpura on July 2 and five stolen motorcycles were seized purportedly from them, the police said. At their instance, they arrested the three other accused from the same area on Saturday. Chassis numbersEngine and chassis numbers of most motorcycles were found tampered with. The police said the accused had abandoned two stolen Maruti Esteem and Tata India cars in the Capital and in neighbouring Noida after using them to steal motorcycles. The two cars were later recovered by them. 35 vehicle theftsDuring interrogation, the accused confessed to their involvement in about 35 vehicle thefts in Delhi. The gang comprised two groups, one that committed thefts and park the motorcycles in the Jangpura area by affixing fake registration number places on them. The police said Dipankar, a BCA student in a reputed Ghaziabad management college, prepared forged papers of the vehicles along with his classmate Ajeet and Sanjay. The papers were prepared purportedly through Kashganj Transport Authority in Uttar Pradesh through a contact of Ajeet. According to the police, Manoj is the gang leader and is also a stuntman. Dipankar had recently applied to James Cook University in Singapore for higher studies. He has been a national level swimmer and also participated in a mass awareness rally against child labour organised by his school from Bharuch to Surat in Gujarat. Ajeet’s father is a lecturer and Sanjay works as a mobile phone tower technician with a multi-national company.
