Emergency anniv. observed
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: To mark the 34th anniversary of the declaration of Emergency, Janhastakshep and Peoples’ Union for Civil Liberties organised a public meeting at Gandhi Peace Foundation here recently. Speaking on “Anti-Terror Laws: Emergency by Proxy”, Anoop Saraya spoke about the continuing repression by the State which appears to be a “continuation of an undeclared Emergency”. However, today the ruling class and the administration have a consensus on oppressing mass movements, he added. As human rights activist Dr. Binayak Sen was unwell and unable to attend, his statement was read out.
