Lakshmi Manchu Talk to those associated with decision making for different channels and most end up stating that they wish to break the monotony in programming they themselves have set over the years. For more than a decade, the content has just revolved around the mundane and they kept backing it to the hilt hoping to keep opponents at bay. But the competition to win the attention of viewers and then retain the same has just turned tough for most. The old formulae are just not sure winners anymore. Some programmes that were thought as sure-to-click managed to draw viewers for few weeks but then went for a dismal dip in ratings. We want something new and different, a channel head says with a pensive look. Another conceded thoughts of just redrawing entire programme schedule. One concept clicks on one channel platform but an exact copy of it bombs on other. Very few made a mark in recent times with their different content and the successful include shows such as ‘Re la re re la’ hosted by Udaya Bhanu on Maa and the talk show by Lakshmi Manchu on Zee Telugu.
