West Indies 27 for one

GROS-ISLET: West Indies was 27 for one in 7.3 overs when rain put a halt to the proceedings in the fourth and final One Day International against India at the Beausejour Cricket Ground here on Sunday.

Put into bat in match reduced to 49 overs a side because of the wet weather, skipper and danger man Gayle was dismissed second ball.

Quick strike

Ishant Sharma got a back of a length delivery to take the edge of the left-handed batsman’s blade and the snick was gleefully accepted by Gayle’s counterpart M.S. Dhoni behind the stumps.

Earlier, the start of the match was delayed because of early morning rain.

Unchanged sides

Both sides are unchanged from the previous match two days ago, when India won by six wickets under the Duckworth-Lewis Method to take an insurmountable 2-1 lead in the series.

India also won the high-scoring opening ODI by 20 runs two Fridays ago at Sabina Park in Jamaica, and two days later, West Indies rebounded to secure an eight-wicket victory in a low-scoring second ODI at the same venue.

India is looking to win their fifth straight overseas ODI series, and formalise a rare ODI series victory in the Caribbean before embarking on a much-anticipated two-month break from the game.

The teams:

West Indies: Chris Gayle (captain), Runako Morton, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Dwayne Bravo, Darren Bravo, Denesh Ramdin, Jerome Taylor, David Bernard Jr, Sulieman Benn and Ravi Rampaul.

India: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (captain), Dinesh Karthik, Gautam Gambhir, Rohit Sharma, Yuvraj Singh, Yusuf Pathan, Abhishek Nayar, Harbhajan Singh, Ishant Sharma, Rudra Pratap Singh and Ashish Nehra. — Agencies
