Metro successfully repairs storm water barrel

New Delhi: Delhi Metro on Sunday successfully repaired a 60-year-old storm water barrel below the Aurobindo Marg in south Delhi, enabling the stretch to be reopened for traffic within a month.

“DMRC engineers had to excavate the area for proper investigation to avoid surface settlement. The road had to be excavated five meters below the surface to reach the brick barrel which was leaking as plans of the barrel were not available with any civic agency,” a Metro spokesperson said. The inspection at the whole site around the tunnel area revealed that there were seven leakages which lead to flooding at the site and these leakages were then carefully plugged through concrete lining, he said. With this, the corridor of the Aurobindo Marg from IIT towards AIIMS has been fully opened for traffic from Sunday. -- PTI
