Security in MP forests enhanced

Bhopal: The Centre has accorded approval to the Madhya Pradesh Forest department’s Rs.2 crore proposal for satellite and camera surveillance of around 95,000 sq km forest area and wildlife in the State, a top officer said.

The State Forest department had submitted the proposal for surveillance of the forests and wildlife under Central sponsored Integrated Forest Protection Scheme to the Ministry of Environment and Forests some time ago, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (Protection and IT) Anil Oberoi said. “Under the project, the Forest Department will make use of satellite, besides wireless broadband system fitted with cameras to do surveillance,” he said.

He said that Surveillance Centre having 16 screens will be set up at Satpura Bhavan here and will monitor functioning of 400 forest protection chowkies in super sensitive forest areas. –PTI
