Speeding up of Yeleru canals modernisation works sought

Rajahmundry: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy said a special fund aimed at overcoming the problems related to bridge loans for housing was under consideration.

Delays in repaying these loans would be covered by making the payments from the proposed fund.

Discussions were on with banks for this purpose, he said in a district level review meeting at the R&B guest house here on Sunday.

Indiramma houses

Mr. Reddy ordered that special attention be paid to construction of Indiramma houses in the purview of Kakinada and Rajahmundry municipal corporations and also in the rural areas to make up for the delays.

He said houses which are at various stages of construction, should be completed at the earliest.

About 7,000 houses were pending completion in East Godavari district.

Development activities

He ordered the AP State Housing Corporation district manager G. Satyanarayana to ensure completion of nearly 10,000 houses sanctioned under phase-1 for SCs and STs.

The Chief Minister asked the district in-charge minister Botcha Satyanarayana and Rural Water Supply Minister P. Viswaroop to bring the problems existing in providing irrigation facility from Yeleru canals to the notice of Chief Minister’s office to enable him to take necessary steps.

Earlier, District Collector Gopalakrishna Dwivedi gave a power-point presentation on the ongoing development activities.

He said the district stood first in the State in implementation of Rajiv Arogyasri scheme and fourth in the execution of Indiramma scheme.

Disbursing of loans

The district also has the distinction of disbursing the highest amount of loans (approximately Rs. 950 crore) to self-help groups.

Target for 2009-10 was pegged at Rs. 1,200 crore.

Responding to a query by media persons, Mr. Rajasekhara Reddy said an ACB (Anti-Corruption Court) Court would be set up in Rajahmundry to put to trial public servants accused of indulging in corruption.

Memorandum

Later, Kakinada MP M.M. Pallam Raju submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister seeking speeding up of the Yeleru canals modernisation works, for which tenders needed to be called immediately.

Mr. Pallam Raju has also sought permission for construction of a mini fishing harbour costing nearly Rs. 60 crore at Uppada.
