Udhagamandalam: International Day of Cooperatives was celebrated under the aegis of the Public Awareness Association of Udhagamandalam here on Sunday. Former Cooperative bank manager N. Ramakrishnan who presided said that political interference should not be allowed in the functioning of cooperative institutions. The Secretary of the association G. Janardhanan underscored the need to stem the rot that has set in the cooperative system. Pointing out that the system can play a major role in ensuring the economic wellbeing of the people, he regretted that it was now being misused to make a fast buck.
